Exclusive Interview: Siri

Siri

Born in Minnesota and raised in Texas, Siri decided she wanted to be in adult films while in college at age 19 – four years before she finished school. After making the move to Los Angeles and performing in her first porn scene in February 2012, Siri has quickly made a name for herself in the adult industry. Siri and her amazing natural H-cup boobs come from a mix of mostly Swedish heritage, with sprinklings of Danish and Norwegian. Her most recent accolades include winning Female Performer of the Year for the 2014 TLA RAW Awards, The TLA RAW Battle of the Superstars Champion, 2013 AVN Awards nomination for Best New Starlet, winning 3rd Place Overall in Miss FreeOnes 2013, and voted 2012 Miss FreeOnes Best Newcomer. In July 2013, Siri launched her new membership site as part of Vicky Vette’s VNA (Vette Nation Army) Network of porn star websites. Siri is a spokesmodel for BettingSports.com and SnapGirlz.com, and she was the only adult industry professional named a Top Writer of 2013 by Quora.com. With her dynamic sexuality, Siri hypnotizes and delights her loyal fans – whom she lovingly calls her “Legion of Sirians” – and is constantly recruiting new ones!

We caught up with Siri to find out more about her amazing career, her biggest professional challenge, the state of the adult industry and how much she loves her fans.

What were you like when you were younger, let’s say in high school – were you shy, outgoing?

I was a theater nerd. I was very outgoing around people I knew well, but to anyone who didn’t know me personally, I probably seemed a little shy.

When did you first became comfortable with your sexuality?

I was a late bloomer — I had my first kiss at 17 and had sex for the first time at 18. But I wasn’t clueless about sex; it was actually kind of the opposite. I was so insanely curious about sex and sexuality that I would read anything I could get my hands on that had to do with sex. So I had a lot of knowledge about it by the time I was sexually active… it just took me longer to implement that knowledge. I explored my sexuality quite a lot between the ages of 18-21 and I’d say I was very comfortable sexually – and very experienced – by the time I was 22.

Do you remember the first time you saw porn or any adult material? What was your initial reaction?

I remember trying to decipher naked figures from watching the pixelated static on the softcore Spice channel when I was younger…something I’m sure that all kids of the late ‘90s did at least once. But I didn’t see any actual explicit porn images until I was in middle school. I remember having a very distinct feeling of awe, and curiosity. And I remember being surprised by how different a penis looks, from what I had imagined it would look like.

Did you have any misconceptions about the porn industry before you started?

Not a whole lot surprised me because I did extensive research before pursuing this. But one thing I was really surprised to learn, that nobody outside the industry knows, is that all female performers continue to work while menstruating. Like everyone else, I assumed that performers just take off for five to seven days every month. Nope! You just cram some makeup sponges up there and keep working.

How do you remember your first year in porn?

A whirlwind adventure, and an amazing learning experience. I accomplished so much in my first year and due to some very valuable advice from other veteran performers and directors, I was able to build a solid foundation for my career, which I’m very grateful for.

What attracts you to your porn career? Glamor, money, sex, or all the above?

That’s a funny question to me, because porn is not very glamorous, it doesn’t make performers rich, and the sex, while high in quantity, is often not higher in quality than the sex I have in my personal life. The least of my reasons for choosing this career is for money — my original expectation was to earn a living doing this, not to get rich. And even making a living is not easy work…I am satisfied with my income but I also work twelve hours every day – not shooting; but working on my website, social media, and giving interviews like this one! It’s definitely a hustle. For me this career is really about being sexually open, exploring my sexuality and fantasies, and getting to perform on camera. I love sex, and I love performing, so combining the two is just perfect for me.

You have worked hard to create a brand and maintain a strong personality in Adult – was that your goal from Day 1?

Absolutely. From the first moment I set foot on an adult film set, I’ve treated everything I do as a career move. That’s not to say that my personality or brand is contrived or over-calculated, because I’m very much just myself when I’m on camera. What I mean is that I’ve never made a decision without first considering where it will put me and my career six months, a year, or several years from now. I’m not someone who waits to see what happens — I think about what I want and do what I can to make it happen.

What’s the biggest challenge while working to create and maintain the Siri brand?

Protecting my brand and my business is, and always will be, my biggest challenge. Every day I troll tube sites and Google search results looking for scenes that have been stolen from my official site, www.SIRIpornstar.com. I’ve had shady “adult dating sites” steal my images and use them without permission to drive traffic and sales to their sites. I’ve had adult companies large and small mislabel me and promote me in ways that aren’t consistent with my brand, all of which I’ve battled from my first day in this industry. To me, all of these issues are symptomatic of the fact that most people assume adult performers are unintelligent — and I don’t just mean people outside of the industry. There are plenty of people out there who assume I’m either too dumb to notice – or too dumb to care – when they’re stealing my content, profiting from my image without my consent, or otherwise interfering with my brand.

How do you envision the direction and future of your career? What else would you like to do?

My career is on an amazing trajectory right now. Everything I’ve been working toward is coming together so nicely, and I’m just riding this wave of excitement and happiness. In the short term I’d love to nab some award show nominations this fall, and continue to work in feature films and parodies. Further down the road I want to do more work behind the camera.

You have a dedicated group of fans, your Legion Of Sirians. How can they interact with you online and what do you offer on your website?

I love my #LegionOfSirians! They’re the reason I have such an amazing, fulfilling career in adult films. My website (www.SIRIpornstar.com), part of the VNA (Vette Nation Army) network of sites, turns a year old this July. I’ve got over 80 scenes and 8,000 photos and I update twice per week with new stuff! Plus the VNA network has over 60 girls doing live cam shows weekly. My cam show is every Sunday at 7et/4pt, and I really look forward to that time with my site members each weekend. Additionally, I have a blog and an online store located at www.officialSIRI.com, where fans can learn more about me and all of the things I offer, including signed merchandise, custom videos, 1-on-1 Skype chats, and links to all of my DVDs and web scenes.

I heard you talk about loving music recently – what kind of music do you listen to? Who are some of your favorite artists?

I’m into some of everything. I know that sounds like a cop-out answer, but it’s true. I love classic rock, alternative, classical/orchestral, new-wave, pop, hip-hop, EDM, indie, folk…I have very basic requirements when it comes to enjoying music. 1) It must be relatively original. 2) It must have a distinctive melody, preferably one I can sing along with in the car in an obnoxious manner. 3) I must not find its lyrics disgusting or offensive, unless the song is not meant to be taken seriously, in which case it’s hit-or-miss. 4) Please, no saxophones. There are only three songs with sax solos that I don’t hate, and I already know what they are, so I don’t need to hear any new ones.

What was the last concert you went to? What was your first concert?

My first concert was Green Day on their Life Without Warning tour in 2001. I was 13. I have musician friends here in LA and I go to their shows all the time. The last big arena concert I went to, though, was to see Heart play at the OC Fair.

I also heard you say you’re learning guitar. Was there a particular song or artist that made you want to learn how to play?

I started learning guitar when I was 14 and I’ve played since then. I mean, it would be wrong to say that I’m done learning, because one is never done learning, but I don’t know where you heard me say I just started, because I’m definitely not a n00b in that department! (laughs) I’ve always learned instruments. My parents started me with piano when I was five, and by the time I was a teenager I was sick of it and wanted to play a cooler instrument, so guitar was the obvious choice. When I first started playing I was really intent on learning every song by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and James Brown, but now my tastes are all over the place. I listen to everything, but when I play I’m very into a softer acoustic, indie-folk style.

The adult industry, just like the music industry, has changed so much over the past few years. Torrents and tube sites are killing the retail side of things and there really isn’t a business model anymore. Is there a business model that can resurrect adult and do you think this will lead to performers doing more on-demand style work?

As far as I can tell, this is the current business model for adult films:
Cut your budget as low as humanly possible. If necessary, try to convince every performer and crew member to work for less than their standard rates. Once complete, release your content on the web or on DVD, fully knowing that stolen versions of it will appear for free on or before the actual release date, and that you will be lucky if you break even on your release, let alone actually profit from it. Tweet/Instagram/Blog/Facebook about your new release to alert fans, fully knowing that 90% of them won’t pay for your product but will immediately Google “‘your product’s title’ + free.” Take a moment to appreciate those kind, conscientious fans who actually pay for your product and support your business. Because you have to generate more content at a lower cost to try to compete with the insane amount of free stolen porn, you pretty much shoot all the time. And you spend the few days when you’re not producing your next product trolling the internet for your stolen content, and sending DMCA takedown notices. Typically once a scene is removed from a tube site it’s uploaded again the next day, often by the same user account. It’s like playing whack-a-mole.

I think about the state of my industry all the time. I wish there were a simple solution to rescue the adult industry from the destructive effects of piracy. But I honestly believe that only two things will possibly improve our situation. First, porn viewers and fans need to realize that porn is worth paying for. Please check out PayForYourPorn.org and #PayForYourPorn on Twitter for more information. The only other thing that will make a difference is government intervention, which is highly unlikely. We’re not like mainstream Hollywood, with giant corporations and lobbyists in Washington to protect our interests. There is nobody helping protect us, and the last thing the government wants to do is save the porn industry. The only ones who can save porn are adult industry professionals, and porn fans themselves. The industry is already doing everything it can as a collective. And the majority of porn fans still think porn should be free. It’s a huge, depressing conundrum, and it illustrates exactly why the #PayForYourPorn campaign is so necessary.

What are you up to next?

I have some really exciting projects coming up soon! I can’t give any details, but I can say that my fans will be very pleased with all of the stuff that will be releasing this fall.

What would you like to say to your fans to wrap things up?

Thank you so much to my #LegionOfSirians! My fans mean everything to me! Please remember to show your support for me and your other favorite adult stars, and #PayForYourPorn. It makes a huge impact when you put your money where your mouth (or cock) is by supporting the studios and performers who work so hard for you, instead of consuming stolen goods by visiting tube and torrent sites.
