Motorhead To Release Covers Album In September

The band will release ‘Under Cover,’ a collection of some of their best covers that will include the previously unreleased version of David Bowie’s ‘Heroes.’

One thing Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee liked to do throughout their years together in Motorhead was grab a favorite song by another artist and give it a good old fashioned “Motorheading.” To run them through the Motorizer, if you will. To rock them, roll them and even give them an extra twist and edge.

In celebration of some of those finest moments, the band will release Under Cover, a collection of some of their best covers, and a collection which will include the previously unreleased version of David Bowie’s timeless classic “Heroes.” Recorded during the Bad Magic sessions in 2015 by Cameron Webb, it was one of the last songs the band recorded together.

“It’s such a great Bowie song, one of his best, and I could only see great things coming out of it from us, and so it proved to be,” says Phil Campbell, “and Lemmy ended up loving our version.”

“He was very, very proud of it,” says Mikkey Dee, “not only because it turned out so well but because it was fun! Which is what projects like this should be — fun!”

Under Cover will be available on September 1 in 1CD (digipak), 1x 180-gram black vinyl in gatefold, super deluxe box set (1CD digipak, 1x 180-gram black vinyl and VIP guest pass), digital audio and MFiT Audio.

To that ethic, the rest of the album contains loud and proud, raucous and raging rock ‘n’ roll takes on the likes of “God Save The Queen” (Sex Pistols), “Cat Scratch Fever” (Ted Nugent), “Rockaway Beach” (The Ramones), “Breaking The Law” (Judas Priest) and “Whiplash” (Metallica) which earned the band a Grammy in 2005 for “Best Metal Performance.”

“We were happy with them at the time and we’re happy with them now,” affirms Campbell, while Dee says, “We should remember that it’s about having some fun with songs that we all loved.”

John 5 says about the recording of It’s Alive!, “I remember pulling up to a beautiful venue that we played in Sellersville, Pennsylvania and before we were unloading the equipment, the soundman said, ‘Hey guys, would you like to record the show?’ We said, ‘sure that would be amazing!’ I always wanted to have a really great recording of the show. We were a few weeks into the show so we were really well rehearsed, so I said, ‘Alright guys, let’s not jump around. Let’s just really try to get a great performance because we only have one shot – no other shows if we mess up!’ So, we explained to the crowd that we would be recording. You can hear that on the recording of the album, which makes it very magical. It came out amazingly! That’s the magic of live albums to me – capturing the performance.”

Almost five decades ago, the toll of a bell and rolling thunder marked the conception of an ear splittingly monolithic riff. In that moment, Black Sabbath and the sound of Heavy Metal were forged. The band embarked on what Ozzy describes as “the most incredible adventure you could think of,” a journey that would go on to define a genre.

The End, released on November 17, captured the final destination of that adventure – an unforgettable farewell show at the Genting Arena in Black Sabbath’s hometown of Birmingham. Filmed February 4, 2017, The End captures the legendary line-up celebrating their storied career, marking the closure of a monumental chapter in rock history.

Joe Perry – legendary guitarist, co-founding member, principal songwriter and co-producer of Aerosmith – is readying his new solo album Sweetzerland Manifesto for release on January 19, 2018.

Due out on his own Roman Records imprint (distributed worldwide by AMPED Distribution), Sweetzerland Manifesto marks Perry’s sixth solo album and is comprised of 10 new tracks. They were all written or co-written by Joe (many with the album’s guest vocalists), except for a cover of “Eve Of Destruction” with Joe on lead vocals and Johnny Depp on drums. The album features guest appearances from a long list of Joe’s friends, colleagues and rock and roll icons. Highlights include “Aye, Aye, Aye,” which Joe co-wrote with the track’s vocalist Robin Zander, and three collaborations with David Johansen, who sings “I Wanna Roll,” “Haberdasher Blues,” and “I’m Going Crazy,” plus as many co-writes with Terry Reid whose lead vocals light up “I’ll Do Happiness,” (with Zak Starkey on drums), “Sick & Tired” and “Won’t Let Me Go.”

Sweetzerland Manifesto was recorded at Studio 1480 in Los Angeles and produced by Joe Perry and Bruce Witkin, with Johnny Depp serving as executive producer and additional help from Jack Douglas who co-wrote and co-produced a number of tracks. It was engineered by Witkin and Tony Perry. The album was mixed by Tony Perry with Ari Blitz serving as assistant mix engineer at After Master in Los Angeles. On the album, Joe also teams up with sons Tony and Roman on “Spanish Sushi,” which was produced and arranged by The Perry Boys with Joe on guitars and bass, Roman adding synthesizer programming and Tony handling drum programming.
