Listen To Edguy’s New Song ‘Edenblack’

“Ravenblack” is taken from ‘Monuments’ – a 2-CD/DVD-package that includes brand new material, their best tracks of the last 25 years, and old rarities.

on

In February 1992, a bunch of German kids set out from the middle of nowhere and founded a band that would conquer the hearts of a whole new generation of fans around the globe.

Today, 25 years later, Edguy’s founding members Tobias Sammet and the two guitarists Jens Ludwig and Dirk Sauer, as well as Tobias “Eggi” Exxel (bass) and Felix Bohnke (drums), who joined the band 20 years ago, can look back at their hugely successful career to shows in more than 40 countries, countless tours in Asia, Australia and America, ten studio albums and Top 10 chart entries from all over the world.

To celebrate such an exceptional career with their fans, Edguy will get back on the road. And while the live program will only contain the best material of their entire career, the new release will not be just a “greatest hits” album one would expect to accompany such a tour: The 2-CD/DVD-package Monuments — due on July 14 via Nuclear Blast — will include brand new material, their best tracks of the last 25 years, and old rarities that have never been published before. In addition, the DVD will include an entire show from Edguy’s “Hellfire Club” tour in 2004 as well as the complete collection of the band’s video clips. The limited edition will include an extensive coffee-table book containing material from throughout the entire history of Edguy.

Watch the official lyric video for the new song “Ravenblack”:

Sammet states: “Whilst collecting all of this picture material together, we were once again made aware of how proud we are of what we have created.

“There are probably not many musicians who are lucky enough to be able to look back on a 25-year-old band history at the end of their thirties. And especially without any lineup changes in the last 20 years! This is even more incredible considering that we’re not from Birmingham, New York or a German metropolis but from a small town called Fulda, a place where you normally only know about the insights of the music business by hearsay. I mean, as kids we started to play Edguy shows even before we had visited concerts as fans ourselves! Then we started to play shows outside our home town, then outside Germany and, all of a sudden, we found ourselves touring in Asia, America and Australia on a regular basis, because apparently there were people who liked our music. And they became more and more. For us, this always felt quite normal, the next step was all that mattered. We didn’t think about what happened while things were happening. But if you look back now, you will realize how lucky we were!”

He continued: “It’s now time to celebrate our anniversary with our fans. We’ll celebrate our quarter century with the release of Monuments and live in some selected cities! We’ll perform a best-of set list, a journey throughout our past, with a lot of fuss and at full throttle!

“The first quarter century is over and we want to honour these years with our fans! To the next 25 years!”

Machine Head will release their ninth full-length album, Catharsis, on January 26, 2018 via Nuclear Blast.

“I feel like metal could really infiltrate the mainstream with this album. And it needs to… now more than ever,” said Flynn. “A lot of consideration went into making these songs more identifiable to a wider audience. Simplifying ideas, simplifying hooks, really concentrating on story-telling as opposed to ‘brutal poetry’ or whatever. And while I’d love to say it was all some grand plan, there was no ‘plan.’ You never know where you’re going to end up whenever you start writing a record… you just write… but I tell ya what… we ended up with a landmark here. Whenever you finish an album, you always feel proud, but this time… we’ve got something really special. We can feel it. We know it. ‘Catharsis’ could really elevate our genre.”

Watch Lyric Video For New Anvil Song ‘Ego’

Anvil’s upcoming album proves their impressive stamina: never before have they sounded as diverse, determined and inspiring.

Published

on

Of course there are bands that have garnered higher chart positions, sold more albums and filled bigger venues than Anvil. Yet there are few metal acts that have earned as much respect from their colleagues as the Canadian act surrounding vocalist/guitarist Steve ‘Lips’ Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner. The most renowned Anvil aficionados include, among others, international stars such as Metallica and the late Lemmy of Motörhead, who have expressed their unreserved admiration time and again. The reasons for this evident respect are obvious: since 1978, Anvil have been the epitome of a passionate heavy metal band that refuses to be thrown off course by setbacks, adverse conditions and inconsistencies on the business side of things. Their latest album Pounding The Pavement proves their impressive stamina: never before have Anvil sounded as diverse, determined and inspiring.

Check out the lyric video for new track “Ego”:

Why has Pounding The Pavement turned into such an awesome offering? Kudlow’s explanation is simple: “The songwriting process started immediately after the work on our previous album, Anvil Is Anvil, had been completed,” he says. “So our thoughts instantly turned to the future again. After Anvil Is Anvil had been cut, everybody knew what we had just delivered and what Anvil’s future should sound like.” Despite the diverse range of their ideas, Kudlow, Reiner and their bassist Chris Robertson have succeeded in filling the typical trademarks of this unusual band with life once again – which is an important aspect for every Anvil release, after all tradition and reliability play an essential role in this group. Kudlow: “Of course we always allow inspirations from earlier recordings to seep in, but always with an emphasis on evolving the characteristic Anvil sound. Lots of fans keep asking us to play the way we did in the so-called good old days. That’s why I try from time to time to pick up on that exciting feel of our older material. Mind you, it’s always exclusively about the basic atmosphere of that time, never about copying an older song.”

Pounding The Pavement was produced at the Soundlodge studios in Rhauderfehn in the northwest of Germany, where Anvil found not only the necessary peace and seclusion to concentrate on their recordings, but also met in studio owner Jörg Uken the ideal producer for their ambitioned work. Talking of which: the programmatic album title Pounding The Pavement is a synonym for the consistently serious challenge of ensuring Anvil’s financial survival. Kudlow: “I feel nothing could describe the way we’ve been working for the past forty years better than Pounding The Pavement: Anvil have tried for four decades to earn enough money to survive and continue to make music.”

Pounding The Pavement will be released on January 19, 2018 through SPV/Steamhammer as a digipak version (+1 bonus track and poster), 2LP gatefold coloured version, download and stream.

Pounding The Pavement track listing:

01. Bitch In The Box (4:29)
