What made you decide to enter the adult business?
I had a lot of hang-ups before about sex. I was like a lot of people, you know, your parents get divorced when you were younger and I was a big daddy’s girl. I had to stay with my mom. She went through a normal experience that I considered a slut experience. I was upset because they were divorced and I was looking at my mom like she was a slut. I was telling myself that I’d never be a slut. I was gonna meet one guy, marry him, and only have sex with him. Even after my first boyfriend and we were together years I realized that it wasn’t going to pan out. At one point in my life I wouldn’t have my boyfriend do me doggy style because – if he was doing me doggy style he couldn’t look me in the face and he didn’t love me.
I know! I know! Then I realized my sexuality was good. I first had sex with a girl, though. That was at a weird time in my life. It happened but was like, hush hush – you couldn’t tell anybody, ya know? Then, later on I accepted that it was good and that I wanted it. I became more open-minded. I thought if you slept with a bunch of guys you were a slut. Keep the numbers low, sleep with one guy. But, bring home other girls and do them yourself or I was totally open to the idea of the doing my man. He could do them doggy style, ya know? I thought I was so open minded from that. I wsa stripping at a club called Flamingos in Ohio before I entered the adult industry. That was Felicia Fox’s hometown club. If she wasn’t travelling back and forth to shoot or featuring, she was dancing every now and then. She was the first porn star I’d ever met. When I met her I thought, “She’s a really pretty girl. Too bad she doesn’t have any respect for herself!” I even told her that and she laughed. We realized we had a lot of things in common…music, horror movies. She invited me to their “clothing optional” house. Sometimes nothing goes on, sometimes anything goes on. At no time were you ever pressured into anything. I started hanging out more there and talking to her more. She invited me to go to the AVN show a couple of years ago. At that time I’d also started watching porn at home and educating myself a little about it. I saw how hot it was. I didn’t know if I could do that stuff, but there are some hot girls! It’s not like 70s porn, ya know? I went to the AVNs and thought, “How could I not want to be in an industry that has the most beautiful, open minded, sexual people?” Why not?
What was your first scene like? Were you scared?
Hell yes! My first scene was with Sean Michaels. I had never been with anybody with a penis that size in my life! Or uncircumsized. That was foreign to me, too. It was a girl-girl-boy with Felicia and Sean. At that time it was awkward because I had become really close with Felicia. We were kinda sisterly. It wasn’t, “I want to rip off your clothes and eat your pussy!” It was more like, “Oh, I’m so glad you’re here!” It wasn’t so much of a sexual thing. It was good but it wasn’t as hot, ya know? No offense to her, it’s just where we were at with our relationship. It went well and I was so nervous. I found out…I couldn’t take him all the way to the balls. I was doing my damndest to do deep throat and I was an inch away from his 11 inches! I was proud of myself!
And God bless you for trying! So what should a girl entering adult expect to get paid per scene?
There are general rates but because everybody is an entrepreneur and out to make the most money most everyone is going to lowball you. A lot of new girls don’t know enough to stand up for themselves or to have someone tell them what they should be asking for, period. For a straight, girl-girl, only vaginal scene you need to ask for this much. Sometimes companies say, “The reason we’re paying you less is because we’re not going to be shooting as long. It’s only going to be an hour.” That’s such horseshit. No scene they’ve ever shot only takes one hour. If you want to get in the industry you should meet other girls already in the industry and have them discuss things with you. You need somebody else to talk to other than a male agent or agency. They just want you to make them money. I’m not saying that anybody is a scumbag, that’s just the reality of it.
So what’s a good ballpark figure for a new girl shooting her first scene?
It can be anywhere from $800 to $1000 for a vaginal, boy-girl.
Do they offer incentives to do other things?
Yeah, they may give you more money to do anal. I don’t do anal. I never did it before. I’ve done it in my personal life and it’s always been a spontaneous part of my sex. I like to get horny for it. I can’t say if I was booked for an anal scene on October 14 at 10AM that I’m gonna be horny for it. I like to be true to myself. I like the sex. There are girls I know that are doing it just for the fame and the fortune and what it can do for their career. Yeah, I want that to but I want to be true to myself and have experiences that are truly fun and sexual. Right now, anal sex is just something that I can’t say would be good to be booked for. They always try to talk you into anal because that’s what’s big now. They’ll even tell you they’re not sure if they can use you if you won’t do anal. You just have to stand your ground. I’ve been getting shot without doing anal.
After you made the decision to enter the adult biz, how long before someone mentioned testing for STDs and HIV?
I had Felicia as a mentor and every step of the way. It was a given that once I got to California, besides dropping by a rental office and looking at rentals, we dropped by AIM. We did my blood tests, urine for gororrhea, Chlamydia…I had a full test done. It was a 24-hour turnaround. I knew I had to have it. They do offer a video called Porn 101. Two or three months ago I saw Nina Hartley talking to Sharon Mitchell and they’re going to make an updated version of it. The video is basically Sharon and Nina talking about how you can put a condom on with your mouth, doing penis inspections on set, looking at each other’s tests. It even goes over the fact that if you’re in the industry and your boyfriend is not that I should go over with him that I get tested all the time. Maybe he needs to start getting tested, too. I could bring something home to him. Since I’m in the industry, in all actuality, he is too. He’s not doing scenes, but everyone I’m having sex with – he’s having sex with. Right? They educate you like that. Enough people have not seen that video. It’s mostly directed towards female talent but I think they’re going to change that. I watched it. I’m the type of person that when I do something I want to know everything about it.
Of all the people and companies you’ve worked with, have they been pretty consistent in seeing the test results? Has anyone never mentioned them?
I’m generally good to walk in with my tests and say, “Here they are. Can I see yours?” Recently I worked for one company that can get the test results off the computer. Then they print them up and keep them in a file folder. Everybody that works together that day will show each other the results from their file. It worked out too that it was on a Sunday and I had a test on a Saturday and didn’t get to pick it up. That’s the only time that I never went to a shoot with a test but it was already there, ya know? I personally would not shoot without seeing a test. At all. You can call AIM if they’re open and get it over the phone. Sometimes if you’re shooting on a Sunday or a Saturday after 5PM, there are no times to call.
How often do you get tested?
By the adult industry standards it’s once a month. I try to make them overlap. On the 28th day I’ll go ahead and get tested again. I have gone to the Bunny Ranch before, too. That’s legalized prostitution in Nevada. When you go up there, by law and state board, you’re tested weekly there. It’s once a month for blood and weekly by actual examination. They look you over and put a cotton swab in for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphillis. They are more thorough than the urine sample from AIM. I’ve gone up to the Ranch and stayed a little over a week and got two tests from them. One again is another HIV and then it would be a total of three gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphillis tests a month. I haven’t gone back to the Ranch in a little over a month. I’ve joked with the doctors that my real profession is donating blood!
Who pays for the testing?
You have to pay for it. If you go to the Bunny Ranch with no cash you can put it in your books and pay it when you make some cash. It’s $90 for everything and $55 when they’re just doing the chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphillis. At AIM it’s $110 for everything. People might think that’s expensive but it’s a business expense. It’s your piece of mind.
It’s like paying an electric bill. You’ve GOT to do it.
Yeah, I’ve got to do this in order to be OK and be alive and work!
What’s your opinion of AIM and Sharon Mitchell?
I’ve never had any problems with AIM. I think they’re great. I was never in the industry before there was AIM. I couldn’t imagine that. I think it’s wonderful that somebody’s doing something. I think Sharon is doing her best to make it right. She is certainly more educated than I am. I’m educating myself more and more everyday, like the difference between an ELSA and a PCR-DNA test. I think it’s scary that people get tested monthly but it’s in the middle of the month and they may have some other disease. Then they’ll go to some other doctor and get tested because they’re afraid of not working. They’re scared that they don’t want it to be announced in the industry that they have something. Let’s say a guy gets gonorrhea and he’s right smack in the middle of a good test. He’s thinking if he goes to AIM and gets tested that he’ll get the shot to be cured but they’ll also announce to everyone not to work with him for 28 days. He can go to another outside doctor to take care of it and still keep working. That’s where I think there is a problem. Once you enter into the industry I think you should go to ONE PLACE and ONE PLACE ONLY. When you sign into the adult industry you sign up to have all your personal health issues a publicly known fact. If you’re willing to shoot a sex scene for the public you should be willing to have your STD history a public issue as well. Basketball players are sports roll models. We’re the roll models for sex. We have to show that and prove that, you know?
Not too long ago it was announced that the industry was on a 60 day hiatus. A lot of people don’t realize that an annoucement like that means two months with no paycheck for some people. Are porners more prepared for two months without work than someone with a regular job?
I feel really bad for the men in the adult industry. A lot of times these guys have put all their eggs in one basket. They don’t have the outlets that we girls do. We can feature dance, house dance, in-store signings, photo shoots, magazine layout… These guys are just the tools. The women are the superstars. We can do other things that don’t involve sex. They can only do things that involve sex. I think you should never make this the one thing you do anyway. There are times when it’s slow, too. There are times you’ll get offers to do things you don’t want to do. I got offered to do a midget. Nothing else was knocking at my door at the time and I was like, “No way.” No offense, but I’m just not into that. Why should I do something that I’m not into? Then I got to thinking that they were going to give me so much money…I had to slap myself in the face and say NO! Don’t stray your beliefs because of money. That’s wrong. You should have other things going for yourself. That way it keeps the industry fun and you can be more selective in what you do. When a crisis like this happens and all that extra money isn’t coming in you can have something else going on. I think what Jenna Jameson and her husband are doing – AdultFund.com – that just proves how awesome Jenna is! That’s brilliant. I had an idea that I’d like to get going. I’d like to organize a car wash and donate the money towards testing, especially for the first generation, second generation, and third generation. It would help them pay for their AIM tests. When you have to have a series of tests back to back when you’re not working, it could be expensive. We could have a bunch of industry girls do the car wash and pay for those performers to have their AIM tests at no cost.
What’s the morale of the industry right now?
I think the situation is sad and some people are just looking for someone to blame. There is nobody to blame. We all agreed to do this and this is the worst. This is what we agreed to subject ourself to when we work. The guy who first tested positive, even if he did do something unsafe or unprotected, he was doing the right thing when he found out he was positive. He was going to get his monthly test. To place blame is wrong. He was doing what he was supposed to do. We’re only tested monthly, maybe that’s the scary thing. Maybe this is helping everybody re-evaluate what they want to do, how they want to work, how to avoid something like this in the future. We shouldn’t place blame. We should find a solution that will make things even safer than before. Then there’s the whole condom thing. We could do condom only but the overseas market doesn’t like to see condoms and it’s not as raunchy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There are so many points to everything Everything should be re-evaluated. I’m just trying to keep myself busy. I’m gonna abstain and stay safe because that’s what’s important.
Do you know anybody in the first or second generation?
I know a girl that’s been tested once already and it was negative but she has another test that’s more definite. She was the only girl that worked with Darren two times that month. Both were anal and both were internal cum shots. Bless her heart, she’s a sweet little 19 year old girl. She’s aware of what we subject ourselves to everyday. She has a good, positive attitude that she won’t get it but she’s realistic that it could happen. Her parents didn’t know that she was in the industry. They know now because she had to tell them what could possibly be the worst case scenario for their little girl.
Is she holding up well enough to decide if she’ll stay in adult if she tests negative?
I don’t think she’s even thinking about that right now. She’s been upset and thinking about the time issue. When you find out somebody’s positive and you get tested and find out your negative you think it’s OK…But you have to wait two more weeks for the antibodies to show up. You have to sit on your butt for two weeks and try not to make yourself go insane. The times we’ve talked we haven’t even talked about shooting again or sex. I don’t even want to bring that up!
Do you think some sex goes too far?
I’ve always had the attitude that even if it’s something that I’m not into, let’s take Max Hardcore for example. He’s a really nice guy and I’ve met him at parties. I believe he should have the right to shoot whatever he wants. As long as all the people doing the movie are consenting, it should be OK. I don’t believe that anybody should decide what’s obscene except for the person at the store buying it.
What about you personally?
I would not want to do a Max Hardcore video. That’s just not my thing. I’m not sooo sensual, but I don’t a wire thing holding my mouth open while you pee in it. That’s not sex to me. What scares me about the industry now is the first girl that’s come up positive, Laura Roxx, a lot of people are looking at her like she’s the victim. Yeah, it’s sad. Darren didn’t know that he had HIV at that time until he came up for his test. Laura Roxx – what happened there that really upsets me – after working with Darren and another guy, she came up with genital warts. She found out and knew it and kept shooting after that. Then she found out that she may possibly have HIV. Now she’s like, “Poor me, poor me.” Darren did the right thing and got tested. He’s definitely not shooting anymore. Yet, genital warts aren’t life threatening, but they’re non-curable and very contagious. You can put other people at risk with that. I can’t believe that. I’ve seen pictures of what it looked like during her scene. What companies are shooting people knowing that they have that? What people are saying, “I know I need money so bad that I have genital warts and I’m going to shoot anyway and put other people at risk.” It’s not life threatening like HIV but that’s mean, that’s wrong, and that needs to be stopped.
That is completely irresponsible.
Extremely irresponsible. That’s freaking me out. That makes me angry.
What are your thoughts on the government getting involved in the adult industry?
I think they should. If it’s a health thing and our safety is involved, we should want to be regulated. They should have places for free HIV testing – That should be throughout the entire United States anyway, not just for the adult industry. If health expenses didn’t cost us so much money there would be so many girls not pregnant, people not passing diseases, cervix cancer could be detected at a younger age. If the government could be involved and provide funding it would solve a lot of problems…For the adult industry and the entire country.
Taking everything into consideration, how much fun is porn compared to other jobs you’ve had?
Porn is the best job I’ve ever had. Not only have I had great sex, but I’ve had a lot of fun doing movies. My last movie was with VCA and I got to dominate Julie Knight. It was filmed in the boiler room where they did Nightmare On Elm Street! That was so much fun. I was a fan of Bella Donna and I got to do her. I’m over at my friend Flower’s house right now and she’s one of Seymore Butt’s Tushy Girls. I have some of the coolest, hottest friends in the adult industry! You’re not watching the clock when you work where I do!
