What was your first guitar?
First guitar was a cheap nylon string acoustic!

Do you still own it? If not, what happened to it?
I do not. I sold it to my neighbor and said to never to get rid of it. She did!

Who are some of the people that inspired you to play guitar?
Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Leslie West, Eddie Van Halen

What is the most collectible guitar in your collection?
My 1953 conversion Les Paul Standard. It’s not all original, but has been on all the KISS CDs.

What makes your effects so essential?
I see them as ways to color the sound of the guitar. Like painting.

How has your gear changed over the years?
Not really too much, just more reliable.

Tell me more about your main axe. What makes it so special?
Well, in the studio it is the LP from 53. It has MOJO. Friendly neck and amazing tone. Super tone! The Vipers from ESP that I have are both fun to perform with and sound great. One is a black custom shop and the other is a white LTD. Sweet tones and reliable.

What equipment do you prefer while recording in the studio?
Many of my vintage gear I do prefer to record with. But there are lots of RI Gibson or Fender things that are awesome as well. I also am a big fan of PRS. I have a few McCarty’s that sound perfect in the studio.

What gear works best on stage?
For a guitar, you want it to stay in tune and be friendly to hold. I like Explorers and Vs but they aren’t that easy to run around with.

How would you describe your relationship with your guitars?
I see them as my children and I tell them to behave! LOL. I am glad I know how to do some minor set ups so I get to kind of groom them a bit.
