Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson Schedules Book Tour

Dickinson will read from his forthcoming autobiography, talk about the experience of writing it and answer questions from the audience.

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson will read from his forthcoming autobiography, What Does This Button Do?, talk about the experience of writing it and answer questions from the audience at half a dozen U.S. appearances in late October and early November:

Oct. 30 – Huntington, NY @ Book Revue at 7 PM
Oct. 31 – New York City, NY @ Hudson Union Society at 12 PM
Oct. 31 – Brooklyn, NY @ Saint Vitus Bar (hosted by Word bookstore) at 7:30 PM
Nov. 01 – Los Angeles, CA @ The Regent Theater (hosted by Book Soup) at 7 PM
Nov. 02 – Menlo Park, CA @ Kepler’s Books at 7:30 PM
Nov. 03 – New York, NY @ Gramercy Theatre (hosted by the Strand bookstore) at 6 PM
Nov. 04 – Ridgewood, NJ @ Bookends bookstore at 1 PM

Dey Street Books (formerly It Books), an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, will publish What Does This Button Do? in the U.S. on October 31.

Heavy metal pioneers since their formation in 1975, Iron Maiden have sold over ninety million albums and played over two thousand shows in sixty-three countries, making them one of the most successful and globally influential bands of all time. One of the world’s most storied musicians, Dickinson has been the band’s internationally acclaimed lead singer for more than thirty years, and quite aside from the decades spent delivering high-octane performances with his larger-than-life persona, Bruce has lived an extraordinary off-stage existence too. A true polymath, Bruce is, or has been, an airline pilot and captain, an aviation entrepreneur, a beer brewer, motivational speaker, film scriptwriter, twice-published novelist, radio presenter, TV actor and a world-class fencer.

Over the last couple of years, and throughout Maiden’s “The Book Of Souls” world tour, which has covered thirty-nine countries and one hundred and seventeen shows since February 2016, Bruce has turned his unbridled creativity to writing his memoirs, longhand (in seven A4 notebooks no less).

In What Does This Button Do?, Bruce (a man who famously never gives interviews about his personal life) shares, for the first time, the most fascinating recollections, including his thirty years with Maiden, the early days, his childhood within the eccentric British school system, going solo, realising his dream of flying jumbo jets and his recent battle with tongue cancer. Dickinson is so much more than the frontman of one of the biggest bands on the planet. A rock icon, a true renaissance man, Bruce has been, and remains, a man of legend.

Bold, honest, intelligent and very entertaining, What Does This Button Do? is the long-awaited window into the life, heart and mind of one of our most adventurous and multifaceted sons. The global publication on October 19 will be accompanied with a commensurate international book tour. More details to come soon.

Bruce said: “It was flattering to be approached to write a book about my experiences and it seems an appropriate time to do this.”

Publishing director Jack Fogg negotiated world rights with Adrian Sington at Kruger Cowne, Dave Daniel at Celebrity Speakers and Maiden’s management, Phantom Music Management, and will publish in conjunction with Denise Oswald, senior editor at Dey Street in HarperCollins U.S.

Fogg said: “There’s no one like Bruce. Which other rock musician can fly a 747, or fence at an international level? He’s a total one-off; engaging, funny, warm, self-deprecating — a British eccentric in its very best form. His book will be outstanding and I am so delighted we get to publish it and work with him.”

Oswald said: “Bruce Dickinson might quite literally be the world’s most interesting man. He’s a true Renaissance man, and being one of the greatest rock singers of all time is merely the beginning. His memoir, like his voice, is sure to set a new gold standard and we’re thrilled to be working with him on it.”

Anette Ekström, MD HarperCollins Nordic, said: “We are so very pleased to be the publishing house for this exciting book! The Nordic countries have a steady fan base for heavy metal, and Iron Maiden in particular. Our aim is to publish the memoir in all four Nordic languages, as close to the English release as possible as we understand the fans will be anxious for it.”

The first print-run of the U.K. hardback will have black sprayed-edges and will be available to pre-order ahead of publication.

Frank Zappa ‘Back On The Road: The Hologram Tour’ Announced

Production for the Zappa shows will kick off in late 2017, with performances announced later in 2018.

Published

Eyellusion, live music’s premier hologram production company, today announced that it will work closely with the Zappa Family Trust to produce hologram performances of Frank Zappa, giving fans an opportunity to experience the prolific, eclectic and critically acclaimed music legend live in concert again. Production for the Zappa shows will kick off in late 2017, with performances announced later in 2018.

“I’m thrilled that Frank Zappa will finally be going back out on tour playing his most well-known music as well as some rare and unheard material,” said Ahmet Zappa, co-Trustee of the Zappa Family Trust. “We can’t wait to bring his creative work back to the stage with the musicians he loved to play with, such as Steve Vai, Ian Underwood, Adrian Belew, Arthur Barrow, Vinnie Colaiuta, Scott Thunes, Mike Keneally, Denny Walley, Warren Cuccurullo and Napoleon Murphy Brock among others who are committed to being part of this epic endeavor. When I spoke with them, they were excited at the prospect of performing alongside Frank once again and can’t wait to give fans an unforgettable experience.”

He continued, “Also, how radical would it be to have Moon singing ‘Valley Girl’ onstage with Frank? Or to see Dweezil side by side with our father playing dueling guitar solos? That would be my greatest wish and I look forward to bringing this special celebration of Frank’s legacy to a town near you. But if that wasn’t enough Zappa coolness, we’re also planning on staging Joe’s Garage The Musical with none other than Frank Zappa himself starring as the Central Scrutinizer.”

“Frank was an innovator and his art transcended so many different mediums,” said Diva Zappa, co-Trustee of the Zappa Family Trust. “He left behind such an extensive body of work and we want to celebrate his music with really creative and unique live hologram productions that will introduce his music to a new generation of fans and let so many that enjoyed his music when he was alive experience it again. We have had this idea for many years and after meeting with the team at Eyellusion, we knew that they were the right partner to make it a reality.”

“We work closely with the Zappa family on their various projects, and look forward to sharing new Frank Zappa performances with his longtime fans, as well as expanding his audience to give new fans the opportunity to share in that experience” adds Bruce Resnikoff, President and CEO, Universal Music Enterprises.

“We are thrilled to welcome such a monumental and important artist to our lineup of planned live music hologram productions,” said Jeff Pezzuti, CEO, Eyellusion. “Frank Zappa was an incredible musician, unmatched in his output, tackled so many different genres and influenced a generation of artists that would go on to help further shape rock and pop for decades to come. We are music lovers first and can’t wait to get to work on yet another show that lets fans experience such timeless and important music in a live concert setting.”

Nikki Sixx Announces ‘The Heroin Diaries’ Graphic Novel

This powerful book will give both insight and understanding to the deadly trap and temptation of addiction.

Published

on

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the release of Nikki Sixx’s drug-soaked New York Times best-selling memoir, The Heroin Diaries. Chronicling the year of decadence and depravity that almost cost Sixx his life during the recording and tour for Motley Crue’s seminal 1987 album Girls Girls Girls, the book not only became a worldwide bestseller but also spawned the band Sixx:A.M., Sixx’s nationally syndicated daily iHeart Media rock radio show “Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx” and soon, tenth-anniversary editions of The Heroin Diaries book and Sixx:A.M.’s soundtrack by the same name (to be announced next month and coming out this fall), as well as the forthcoming The Heroin Diaries play, among many other ventures.

Now, Nikki Sixx and Heavy Metal are proud to announce a graphic novel adaptation of this powerful book that gives both insight and understanding to the deadly trap and temptation of addiction. The Heroin Diaries graphic novel will be the first release under Heavy Metal’s new 12 X 12 imprint, a new line of music-themed art books and graphic novels that will explore the songs and experiences of the most exciting musical artists. Fans visiting Comic-Con San Diego can get an exclusive first preview of the interior pages when visiting the Heavy Metal booth #1529 at the convention between today and Sunday, July 23.

Jeff Krelitz, CEO of Heavy Metal, said: “I’ve been the biggest fan of Motley Crue since the release of Too Fast for Love, and have nothing but the greatest respect for Nikki and his songwriting, so for us to be able to collaborate with him on bringing this tragedy-to-triumph to a new audience in a powerful way is a dream come true.”

Says Nikki: “The Heroin Diaries has always been deeply personal to me. So when the idea came up for a graphic novel based on the story, who better to partner with than the iconic Heavy Metal brand? I grew up reading their magazine as a kid. This is really a passion project and I’ve been intimately involved in every step along the way, from the storyline to the look and feel of the art. Working with Jeff, Rantz and their team has been an inspiring experience and I think we came up with a really unique spin on The Heroin Diaries that tells the story from a different angle. It is meant to be a treat for fans of The Heroin Diaries, old and new, and I hope everyone will enjoy the graphic novel as much as I enjoyed putting it together for you.”

Working in close collaboration with Sixx, The Heroin Diaries is being adapted by Rantz Hoseley, known for his award-winning work with Tori Amos on the graphic novel Comic Book Tattoo, along with acclaimed artists Danijel Zezelj, Andy Kuhn and Kieron Dwyer. Hoseley summed up the development experience by saying: “Getting to work with Nikki and his team at 10th Street Entertainment to bring this story to life in a new way has been incredible. It’s been a fantastic collaboration focused on the sole goal that when the fans pick it up, it blows their hair back like a power chord through a stack of Marshalls.”

The 150-page graphic novel will be presented in a 12″x12″ prestige “album” format and come in different collector’s editions, details of which will be revealed in the near future. Those interested should sign up now at Pledge Music to guarantee the opportunity to purchase a copy, receive an exclusive 10% discount on their order when the graphic novel becomes available for purchase next month and also, to get exclusive news about the the forthcoming tenth-anniversary editions of the book and soundtrack first.
