Exclusive Interview: Janine Lindemulder

Rock Confidential has been featuring exclusive interviews – like this one – with the top names in music and entertainment since 2002.

Janine Lindemulder

Janine, it’s great to talk to you! People always ask me what got me into porn and my answer has always been that I saw you in a music video for Vince Neil. I found out you did porn and I searched for one of your movies. That’s what did it! You’re responsible for all of this and that twisted mind of mine! So, thank you!

(laughs) Aw, that’s sweet! Thank you. That’s great! (laughs)

You truly are a legend in the adult industry and you’ve got to work with the top names as far as talent and companies go. How does it feel to be under contract with Digital Playground?

It’s fantastic. They’re more of a company that…their creations are more heartfelt. They truly are passionate about the product they put out. Experiencing this Pirate film made me feel like I was surrounded by a bunch of psycho kids from Pirates Of The Caribbean! We’re all giddy and happy. We all want a really great product. It didn’t feel like mass-marketed conveyor belt porn where a company is just pumping out porn. This felt more passionate and we wanted to put out something cool.

A couple of companies put out product that’s almost cookie cutter. You know exactly what’s going to happen before it does. Digital Playground and Adam & Eve are definitely two companies that are a lot more creative with their product. Pirates has to be good with both of those companies teaming up on it.

Yeah, definitely. I’m actually jumping on a plane today to go do some green screen stuff. Then we’re planning on going to Florida at the end of the month for a week to shoot all the exterior ship shots.

So you’re still shooting random scenes and the flow hasn’t really come together yet, right?

Right. For the most part, we’ve done the majority of the dialogue and the sex is complete. We’ve got the basics. Now we’re putting the bells and whistles on.

There are some VERY hot girls in that movie! What’s it like working with Jesse Jane and Austyn Moore? Who are the other girls involved?

Carmen Luvana. Jenaveve Jolie. Devon and Teagan Presley, too. I didn’t see them on set. They were there on days that I wasn’t. It’s…I can’t even put into words how fortunate I am to be in this business! (laughs) It is an absolute fantasy. It’s a dream come true. I’ve been doing this for a long time. I started doing this when I was 18 and I’m 36 now. To have this long of a stint and to work with women like that is mind boggling. It’s incredible! They’re sweethearts. They’re sexual and they’re HOT! You can’t go wrong with that!

They’re an armful with their clothes on. I can only imagine what they’re like completely naked!

I knew it was going to be…there was a scene with Jesse Jane and I where we were going head-to-head. The people at Digital Playground kept us away from each other until the day we first shot together. I don’t really know why. Maybe just to intensify the scene? Put us together and you’ve got two very dominant females. Fortunately for me I’m the bigger of the two! I tried to pull rank on her! We had a good time and she’s just a powerhouse in this little package. We did a scene and she was…do you remember the cartoon where you had the big bulldog and you had the little kitty on the back of the bulldog and it’s kneading away? It’s the vision I have of her and me. Here you have this older performer and she’s this new little bouncing girl and she has all this energy. One time she had flipped up her pelvic bone and it popped me in the mouth and split my lip! (laughs) It was all worth it. She’s like the Energizer bunny!

You know, if you put the batteries in backwards in the Energizer bunny it keeps “coming and coming and coming”…OK, that’s the bad joke for the day!

(laughs) No more, please! Spare me!

How did you initially get together with Digital Playground?

It started a couple of years ago when I did the Virtual Sex With Janine DVD. We did that and that was a little something that we threw together and it was a really positive experience. The time came where I wanted to figure out my next move. I made a beeline for Digital and I’m extremely glad I did.

What’s involved with your signing with them?

We have this first year and we’re going to be doing about six titles. We’ll see where it goes from there. We have some ideas for the second year.

You’ve been in the adult industry since you were 18. How would you compare your career now to say, 10 years ago?

I started out just doing magazines. From there it went to Penthouse videos and then to adult movies. I just worked with women. Over time you try different things. Now, working with men is refreshing. I didn’t think I was ever going to be able to cut it. I think I can and I’m glad I’ve decided to do it. In the porn industry in general, it’s become more extreme. People are demanding more extreme scenarios. I’m not a huge fan of over-the-top extreme or brutal scenes. I’m all about the pleasure! I don’t want to do a scene and feel like I was just brutalized or beat up. I don’t want to suffer through a scene. I’m too old for that shit! (laughs) Somebody make me feel good! I want porn to look like the people are really just getting off and feeling good. In the past decade it’s become more and more extreme. I wish it would go back the other way. Have fun! Everybody have multiple partners, get crazy, get funky, have a glass of wine and go for it!

Has working in adult been everything you thought it would be? Have you been let down at all?

No! Knock on wood, nothing’s let me down. It’s been extremely positive. When I think about my years in the business, it’s been absolutely wonderful. It’s created a life for me…I’ll be honest. You don’t have to work all that much. You get an ample amount of time you can spend doing other things. I’ve got my two kids and I’m here in Oregon on a farm now. That’s where I want to be. Being in this business has allowed me to work a little and play a lot. The people I’ve dealt with are good people. Before I started porn I tried my hand at mainstream. Without a doubt, there is so much more bullshit with mainstream than there is with adult. You go into the adult industry, it’s pretty much cut and dried: this is what you do and this is how much you’re getting paid for it. You don’t have to bullshit around with mainstream where you’re still screwing but you’re not getting anything! It’s all been very positive.

I want to ask a little more personal question: How is your life outside of adult now?

My life is at a pinnacle. I’ve learned so much, especially in the past couple of years. I’m at peace with things that I never thought I would be. I’m finally settling into myself. I’m a single mom and for the first time I’m not latched onto a guy to help me go through life. This is the first time that I can do things on my own and it feels good. I learned a lot. I had a few hard knocks a couple of years ago and I picked myself up and reevaluated some things. I’m here in Oregon on a big ole’ spread and it’s put things into perspective. I don’t feel bad for the decisions I’ve made to work in the adult industry. Like I said before, it’s given me an incredible life. This is the best time of my life.

You’re in complete control now…

Yeah, for the first time I don’t have somebody to fight with. In the 90s I always had somebody bitching me out every time I would come home and make me feel bad for what I did or what I didn’t do. Now, it’s like fuck everybody, ya know? I live my life the way I want and I don’t have to feel bad or apologize for anything anymore.

It’s gotta feel good for you.

It’s incredible. I’ve got a great family. I’ve got a supportive mom and a supportive sister. It’s nice, calm and mellow. I left the drama at the door. I don’t want that anymore.

Your sister has to be special to you because I’ve heard you say for years how important she is.

My sister is awesome. We’re not similar. She would never do what I do. I’m sure if she had her way I’d be doing something different. Her love and her support are still there. She’s my little sister but she acts like my big sister. She’s very protective in that way. I love her. I can do no wrong with her.

I’ve gotta ask you about your music. What are you listening to?

I’m stuck in the seventies. I have Cat Stevens and Bob Seger in my car right now. I’m out of the loop of what’s out there. I like feel-good rock. The seventies rock stuff is what makes me feel good. The stuff that’s out now is so damn whiney! I can’t stand a whiney fucking guy! I’m an old-school rock ‘n roll girl.

I’m a sucker for 80s metal and glam stuff.

(laughs) My friend Julia Ann and myself met in ‘88. We were the groupie girls. We had our share of those 80s hairbands. We would have an ongoing list of the guys that we had a moment with! (laughs) It was a pretty damn long list! I’ll flip through the TV and watch old videos and we’ll take turns saying “I was with him!” We’ll go back and forth all night! We hung out a lot on the Sunset Strip. It was fun.

Janine, thanks for taking the time to do this. What would you like to say to your fans?

Thanks for the support over these years. At times I’ve been fickle but I appreciate you all sticking with me!
