Dream Theater Announces More ‘Images, Words & Beyond’ Dates

The tour will feature an unparalleled live set of ‘Images And Words’ in its entirety, along with fan favorites from their deep, widely acclaimed catalog.

Dream Theater have announced the third and final leg of their “Images, Words & Beyond” tour, which sees the pioneering group celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of its milestone RIAA-gold-certified album Images And Words. The North American headline dates kick off October 25 at Oakland’s Fox Theatre. The trek takes the band throughout the US, including dates at NYC’s Beacon Theatre and L.A.’s Wiltern, as well as a stop at the Sony Centre in Toronto.

Like previous legs, the show will be presented as an “Evening With Dream Theater,” with no opening act. The tour will feature an unparalleled live set of Images And Words in its entirety, along with fan favorites from their deep, widely acclaimed catalog.

Said founding guitarist John Petrucci of the upcoming trek: “We are so psyched to bring our ‘Images, Words & Beyond’ tour to North America this fall! It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 25 years since Images was released! We’ve been having a blast playing those songs each night, and sharing memories and stories from our time in the studio back in 1992. We know that this is such an important album to so many of our fans, both old and new, so we plan on making this a really special night by playing Images And Words in its entirety as well as breaking out some rare material, and a few of our latest tunes, in order to make this landmark evening compete. We hope to see all of you there! Don’t miss it.”

Dream Theater recently concluded the European leg of the “Images, Words & Beyond” tour, playing to sold-out crowds across Europe. The upcoming North American run caps off a year-long celebration of Images & Words. After a short break in early 2018, the band will return to the studio to begin work on a follow-up to their most recent opus, The Astonishing.

New Wave will be released on October 27 via Pavement Entertainment. The effort is Powerman 5000’s eleventh official release since forming in 1992 and continues the strides and success, from their platinum-selling album Tonight The Stars Revolt! to their most recent chart-topping single in 2014, “How To Be A Human.”

Powerman 5000 vocalist Spider One stated about the new single, “Sid Vicious In A Dress”: “I suppose at its simplest it’s a twisted love song, but really it’s about loving what hurts you, what is bad for you. Staying when you should run. Over the years, Sid Vicious has become the poster child for chaos and self-destruction. I just took that and put it in the form of a beautiful girl. The title of the song kind of says it all.”

Regarding the overall sound of the follow-up to 2014’s Builders Of The Future, Spider One said: “We went a bit dirtier on this one. Ripped it up more than the last couple of records. One of the goals was to recreate the noise of the live show. Keep in the chaos.”

On the topic of the new album title, Spider said: “New Wave? Are we a new wave band? Well, I would say that we have always had more in common with Devo than Dio.”

Live music’s premier hologram production company Eyellusion today revealed initial dates for “Dio Returns: The World Tour,” featuring a hologram of Ronnie James Dio reunited with the late rock star’s former bandmates from the Dio band. The tour will make more than eighty stops around the globe, kicking off in Helsinki, Finland on November 30. It marks the first tour of its kind, breaking new ground just as Dio did throughout an accomplished career as a lead singer and songwriter in defining bands such as Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio.

The “Dio Returns” tour will also make stops throughout Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Paraguay, United Kingdom, Venezuela and other countries, with dates to be announced. The tour is expected to come to the United States in spring 2018 and play festivals globally during the summer.

The Ronnie James Dio hologram will perform for the majority of the show, treating fans to an alternating set list that will feature songs such as “Holy Diver,” “Rainbow In The Dark,” “We Rock,” “King Of Rock And Roll,” Black Sabbath’s “Neon Knights” and “Heaven And Hell” and Rainbow’s “Man On The Silver Mountain” and more.

In August 2016, Eyellusion surprised fans when it debuted the Ronnie James Dio hologram at the Wacken Open Air heavy metal festival in Germany. The hologram was also tapped to open the 2017 Pollstar Awards, wowing bookers and promoters in attendance and creating excitement for the forthcoming tour. The “Dio Returns” tour will feature Dio’s actual live vocals, backed by a live band consisting of former Dio members Simon Wright (drums), Craig Goldy (guitar) and Scott Warren (keyboards) alongside bassist Bjorn Englen. Veteran metal vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens will also perform, with singer Oni Logan also joining on select dates.

“Working with Eyellusion over the past year and a half to turn our dream of this tour into a reality has been absolutely incredible,” said Wendy Dio, who managed Ronnie James Dio throughout his career and is overseeing every aspect of the “Dio Returns” tour. “No one has ever been able to put together a show and tour like this and we like to think of Ronnie smiling down as we continue to find new ways to share his music with all generations of fans. We cannot wait to be able to finally bring this incredible experience to Ronnie’s fans around the world.”

“We’ve really only given Dio fans a small taste of what they’re going to see on this tour,” said Jeff Pezzuti, CEO and founder of Eyellusion. “We are creating a completely new hologram of Ronnie, designing an amazing light show and continuing to add more dates around the world to make sure that as many fans as possible get an opportunity to take part in this experience.”

Eyellusion’s holograms and live productions are supported by a team of live music and special effects veterans, including Wendy Dio, who leads industry relations, veteran rock manager Todd Singerman, who supports artist relations, and Kenny Aronoff, world renowned live and studio drummer, who supports business development and technical live production efforts. Chad Finnerty at Digital Frontier FX is Eyellusion’s exclusive content creation partner, working directly with clients to bring every project vision to the live stage. Legendary Hollywood digital effects executive Scott Ross advises Eyellusion on overall content creation for all productions.

Guitar wizards Vinnie Moore (UFO) and Gus G (Firewind) will hit the road for some shows together in November and December. This is Moore’s first solo tour since 2015, and will mark the first time these two powerhouse players have toured together. The show will feature music from both guitarists’ impressive catalogs.

“Gus and I met years back in Greece. I brought him up onstage to jam a couple tunes with me and we had a great energy together and had a blast,” exclaims Moore. “I knew that night that I would like to do some shows with him at some point. He’s a very talented guitarist. I am really looking forward to some Gunslingin’ with Gus.”

From his first release Mind’s Eye in 1987 through 2015’s Aerial Visions, Vinnie Moore has set the standard for instrumental guitar albums by delivering soulful songs that feature his signature crackling guitar solos along with memorable melodic lines.

Gus comments, “Touring with Vinnie Moore is yet another dream come true for me. His album Mind’s Eye has had a huge impact on me as I consider it somewhat as a shred guitar “bible.” I spent countless hours learning his licks as a teenager. We met and got to jam few years ago and have become good buddies since. I’m looking forward to returning to the US and playing guitar for you and sharing the stage with Vinnie! See you soon!”
