Andrew W.K. Unveils New ESP Custom Taco Guitar

Published

on

Party God Andrew W.K. is proud to unveil his brand new Taco Guitar, in celebration of National Taco Day. Like the Pizza Guitar before it, the Taco Guitar was custom made by ESP Guitars, and was born from Andrew’s ongoing quest to create the partiest things in the world.

“I started pondering, what’s another food that’s as party as pizza? When it comes to edible celebration, tacos are partier than almost anything else. Pizza and tacos are among the partiest foods on the planet, and I realized that since I had paid musical tribute to pizza, I now had to pay musical tribute to tacos. I was destined to make a taco shaped guitar – it was inevitable,” declared Andrew. “This is proof that if you have the vision, no matter how outlandish or unruly, the team at ESP Guitars can turn that vision into reality. And they do it using the highest quality materials – the highest quality craftsmanship. ESP has absolutely mind blowing attention to detail and they put playability at the top of their instrument’s many attributes. There’s no compromise when it comes to the integrity of this instrument, and there’s no softness when it comes to the hardness of my party.”

Hand painted by Andrew himself, the guitar features a ground beef taco on the front side (topped with shredded cheddar cheese, chopped lettuce, and jumbo diced tomatoes), and a dazzling turquoise eye emblazoned on the back. Watch a video from ESP on the making of the Taco Guitar here.

With a new studio album set for release on March 2, 2018 via Sony Music worldwide, Andrew W.K. is currently in the middle of his first full-band concert outing in five years, “The Party Never Dies Tour,” which continues tonight in Dallas, Texas. A full list of tour dates can be found below.

Win A Day With James Hetfield And Kirk Hammett

Ernie Ball has announced the ‘Hetfield + Hammett Experience’ that will grant winners the opportunity to hang at Metallica headquarters.

Ernie Ball, the iconic maker of Slinky guitar strings and instrument accessories, has announced the launch of the “Hetfield + Hammett Experience,” a partnership with longtime Ernie Ball artists and legendary guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett that will grant three lucky winners the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hang with the guitarists at Metallica headquarters in San Rafael, California.

Winners will also take home their choice of a Hetfield or Hammett signature ESP guitar as well as an Ernie Ball Prize Pack complete with their favorite gauge of Slinky guitar strings and other prizes. The contest launches today, September 7, and runs through October 31.

“I have to say that HQ is kinda like NASA,” says Hammett. “You need the right credentials to get in, you need to know the right codes to get through the door. There are constantly people around making sure that whoever is there is there for a purpose. It’s pretty tight because it’s like the brain control… the mission control for all things Metallica.”

This is a pretty cool opportunity to get into Metallica’s creative space and see what it is, why it is, and what is in there that inspires us,” said James Hetfield. “For me, as a fan of other bands, it would’ve been pretty awesome to have shown up in Phil Lynott’s writing space. This is gonna be a very special moment for whoever gets to show up at HQ.”

“To have artists like Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield trust our strings for over thirty-five years is something the Ernie Ball family is incredibly thankful and proud of,” says Ernie Ball president Brian Ball. “It also means our strings have been along for the epic ride of ‘Seek & Destroy,’ ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls,’ ‘Sad But True’ and many of the band’s biggest hits. We’re excited about this contest and looking forward to connecting the band and a few lucky fans in a special way.”

Fans can enter Ernie Ball’s “Hetfield + Hammett Experience” by purchasing qualifying packs of Ernie Ball strings at Guitar Center or from Musician’s Friend, then entering the codes found inside the packs at ernieball.com/metallica for a chance to win.

Brad Paisley Talks New Signature Guitar And Inspiring Young Players

Award-winning country music superstar and guitarist Brad Paisley discusses his career-long journey to inspire the next generation of guitar players everywhere.

Award-winning and multiplatinum-selling country music superstar, singer, and celebrated guitarist Brad Paisley discusses his career-long journey to inspire the next generation of guitar players everywhere.

“The guys at Fender were so nice, they made a Brad Paisley signature model before I was even born,” Paisley jokes during a tour stop in Seattle. “I’m probably one of the only players who can claim that.”

“I’ve played Telecasters my whole career,” says Paisley, who credits Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill and Albert Lee with introducing him to the Tele brand. “When Fender approached me about doing this model, I was drawn in by their willingness to make something that was obtainable. I didn’t have any interest in starting out with some $10,000 guitar, because really, we’re talking about a cutting board with electronics. You could chop vegetables on it and then play it. I didn’t want to make something that was untouchable for anybody.”

Retailing at $1,199.99, the Road Worn Tele is modestly priced compared to other high-end, American-made guitars. To make sure the cost stayed low, Paisley avoided adding accessories like the B-bender, which allows players to emulate the swooning sound of a pedal steel. The goal was to keep things simple and straightforward, focusing on the core ingredients of Paisley’s Tele tone.

“If we started putting all of these crazy additions into it,” he explains, “it would’ve turned into a Mercedes or something. What we really wanted to do was sell a Chevy – a great muscle car.”
